The Corporate Relations Unit of Thailand Business Coalition on AIDS (TBCA) and the Pan Pacific Hotel recently co-organized “1st Media Training on HIV/AIDS Prevention in the Workplace” for a group of 10 media officers. The unique trainings objective was to help increase knowledge and understanding on HIV/AIDS management in the workplace, and to promote community work and vocational training as supported by the hotel and TBCA.

Dr. Anthony Pramualratana, TBCA Executive Director, introduced the media to the work of TBCA at the training HIV/AIDS in the Workplace for the Media.
At the training the media members received updated information from a recent research conducted by Associate Dr. Busaya Virakul from the School of Human Resources Development at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) on the AIDS problem in the workplace in the business sector in Thailand. The paper focused on the human resources management and problems of HIV/AIDS in the private sector in Thailand, how much the private sector put into efforts to develop a policy on HIV/AIDS management, and how much a HR management on HIV/AIDS can affect personnel recruitment, employment and benefits on health and health security at work. The research was done with a survey of more than 500 firms under the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The paper was co-researched with Professor Gary N. McLean from the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resources, Texas A & M University, USA. It was recently presented at the 11th European Congress of Psychology in Oslo, Norway.
The media had an opportunity to listen to a life story of a person with HIV on how she managed to survive the deadly disease for over 15 years, and how she is now working as a full-time officer.
