In line with its global restructuring program, Triumph International is reorganizing its operations in Thailand. As a part of this program, Triumph’s manufacturing unit in Thailand, Body Fashion (Thailand) Limited, will reduce sewing capacity by approximately 37%. 1,930 employees at the Bangplee factory will lose their jobs as a result of this change effective on August 28, 2009. The Bangplee factory will continue to operate with reduced capacity with the remainder of the employees. Sales and marketing operations in Thailand and the company’s plant in Nakhon Sawan province, which employ over two thousand people, are not affected by this announcement and will continue to operate fully and normally.
Written notice is being given individually to all of the affected employees today. Discussions are now underway with the company’s unions and officials of the Ministry of Labour on severance payments and assistance to employees in finding new employment. Severance arrangements for employees who will be leaving the company in all cases significantly exceed the requirements of Thai employment law.
In common with other businesses in this difficult economic climate, Body Fashion Thailand is affected by the global recession and the general downturn in consumer demand and must take steps to keep its business healthy in such extreme market conditions. The company deeply regrets that any job losses are necessary, but Body Fashion is making every possible effort to ensure that all affected employees are being treated fairly and with respect for their contributions to the company.
